The Environment. Our Future

"The Environment, Our Future" is indeedvery true. People around the world cut and chop down trees at an alarming speed. The reason? It is used to provide necessary materials. It's trunk can be processed into wood planks while its branches can be further mashed and processed into paper. At present day situation, few of the countries that contributed the poisonous gases and greenhouse gases are China, America and Indonesia. Greenhouse gases such as carbon monoxide has a greenhouse effect which when produced, will destroy our atmosphere. It allows heat and sunlight to enter the Earth more readily and then traps them in our Earth. The heat contained in our planet will cause the icebergs and icecaps around the polar region to melt even faster than usual. Each day, more and more ice are melting, increasing the water level of the oceans around the world. As years go by, you can imagine the amount of water being melted into the ocean.

The unbearable heat in parts of tropical countries also add on to the troubles we face. In sunny Singapore, the average temperature in the last 10 years was estimated to bearound 25 degrees celsius. Presently, the temperature now have been rising and it is estimated to be around 27 degrees celsius. The intense heat has also been a headache to everyone. It gives everyone living in hot areas of the world a higher rate of getting skin cancer. In America, the Cancer Foundation has receive an increase of around 20% of people getting skin cancer and skin related problems. South-East asia has also encountered more skin related problems coming up in these few years.

Another problem is also partly because of vehicles. They give off poisonous gases, which endangers human lives. The creation of vehicles may be a good thing, but now more and more people are getting cars to travel around office and home. Thus, petrol prices have increased to encourage people to travel by buses or trains instead. Indonesia has very limited forests left. After forest fires destroys forests and the animals living in them too. Now, the Indonesian
govenment is trying its best to stop people from worsening the condition of Global Warming. They have harshen their laws and people who engage in illegal logging and forest fires may receive very harsh punishments by the law.
As the World's population increase, more and more people are searching for houses, and the builiding of more houses are necessary. In Singapore, it is encourage that families stay together under one roof. By divorcing, parents have to find each of their new homes to live in. That will lead to more houses being built. In other countries, forests and jungles have to be cleared to make room for housing development. Flats are more suitable at this time, as it saves space and allows many families to live in a block. It also breeds harmony among neighbours and helps to built an even more mulit-racial country.
By wasting resources such as paper in everyday life can also worsen the condition of Global Warming. Paper that has been used on 1 page can still be used on the 2nd page. We as inhabitants of the Earth should protect our planet, and save ourselves from future catastrophes. The main problem that we are facing currently is the lack of forests, which is the lack of trees and plants to stabilise oxygen and carbon dioxide production. Everyone can help and chip in to save our environment and Mother Nature. By taking taking trains and buses to travel around may not be as convenient as taking cars, but it's worth to sacrifice a little of our time to save the Earth, we should recycle paper as far as possible and should not be so irresponsible to burn and eliminate forests just for our own selfish benifits. If every family in Singapore were to cultivate at least 1 plant, there would be around 1million potted plants around Sinagapore. This way, not only can we learn to care for nature but help in balancing the carbon dioxide and oxygen level. By being considerate and responisble citizens helps alot and does really come in useful.
